During the holiday season we often have good intentions regarding are desire to give to those who are less fortunate. However, as busy moms or time is limited and often we desire to choose charities or projects that we can share with our children, so as to create teachable moments.
Operation Christmas Child is a great kids-helping-kids project. Packing shoe boxes for needy boys and girls around the world not only teaches your preschooler about the importance of giving; it’s also a fun group activity for both moms and kids. Operation Christmas Child’s National Collection Week is just one month away—boxes need to be packed and dropped off at First Church by November 16—but then you can enjoy the holiday season and feel good knowing that you have made a difference in the life of a child. For more information on Operation Christmas Child, inlcuding instructions for how to pack your shoe boxes and what to include, visit www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.
If you’ve ever wished that there was a more affordable way to take your family to the movies, then check this out:
The Dove Foundation promotes family-friendly entertainment and twice a year, in the spring and fall, they select eight recently released movies that have received the Dove Family-Approved Seal. In cooperation with a theater chain and media sponsors, they offer FREE movie passes to children ages 12 and under. Moms and dads and older siblings pay a reduced admission fee—typically around $2.50. The goal is to allow parents or guardians that would never have had the money to take their children to enjoy an uplifting wholesome movie can now afford that experience as many as 16 times a year.
The following upcoming movies are part of this fall’s Dove Film festival. All children 12 and under receive free admission to the following films.
